Predicted, year 1
What the first plant is predicted to do.
Year-one estimates. Sargassum and solid waste become electricity for this coast. These figures are the predicted first year of a 5 MW conversion line in Belize. They are estimates, not a year we have already run.
- 35 K MWh
Electricity generated.
Enough to power 14,500 Belize homes for a year.
- 60 K Tons
Sargassum removed.
Lifted off the beaches visitors booked.
- 24.5 K Tons
GHG emissions avoided.
Equal to taking 5,300 cars off the road.
- 40 K Tons
Solid waste diverted.
Sorted for power, not buried behind town.
How these figures are sized
Five megawatts net, running 80 percent of the year, produces 35,000 MWh. At 0.35 MWh per wet ton of blended feedstock that is 100,000 tons in: 60,000 tons of sargassum and 40,000 tons of solid waste. Displacing Belize oil-fired power at 0.7 tCO2e per MWh avoids 24,500 tons of GHG, about 5,300 cars at 4.6 tCO2e per car-year. 35,000 MWh covers about 14,500 homes at 2,400 kWh per home per year.
When the line is built and metered, these targets get replaced with measured results, including the ones that come in low.
